Standing committee of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has taken a decision to give 20 per cent discount to all the buyers who purchase medicines from its medical store run in SMIMER hospital campus. This will be 10 per cent more than the previous years. SMC took this decision to benefit lower income group people.
“We know , SMC is going to lose Rs 4 lakh on monthly basis by way of rent .But, we have taken this decision for the benefit of lower and lower -middle income group of people of the city.” Said Nirav Shah, Chairman standing committee, SMC.
Till now, medical facility at SMIMER hospital gave 10 per cent discount to the patients in medicines. That discount was given only to the indoor and OPD patients. It was not open to all. However, under the new provision, anyone can go to medical store run in SMIMER hospital and buy medicines and he would be eligible for 20 per cent discount.
While calling the contractors, SMC in its tenders has put this condition of giving 20 per cent discount to each and every patient that comes to buy medicines in the shop. At present SMC gets Rs 14.44 lakh as the rent, but from new contractor it will get the rent of Rs 10.25 lakh but he will have to give 20 per cent discount.
